Stop Procrastination - Start Building

This newsletter discusses the dangers of procrastination and distractions.
This piece is for young creatives who cannot focus.
By the time you’re done reading you will have a perspective on why you need to act with urgency.
I have worked with dozens of young creatives in order to expand their thinking about creativity and productivity.

The Crucial Perspective Change

Young, dumb, and full of procrastination.

The reason you aren’t getting anywhere with your life is because you don’t execute on the things you want to do.
Life and business are games - but you’re too busy playing into this week’s life of comfort.
Your health and your finances are struggling.

Are you building a life you want to live?

Perspective allows us to zoom out.

When you zoom out - you realize your life is passing by.
When you zoom out - you realize you will experience hardship and grief in the future.
When you zoom out - you start asking why you are where you are at.

But, when you REALLY zoom out - you realize everyone you know will die including yourself and loved ones.

Anytime I struggle with procrastination - I adopt this perspective

You have to be willing to change to improve yourself.
The only way individuals change is through states of discomfort.
Find your why - why do I need to get better? Why would I want to be uncomfortable?

You die in your comfort zone - reverse engineer this and live on your edge.

Start building towards a better life.

Learn principles, not tactics.
What distractions and excuses are you making today?
How can you decrease any friction?
What are you putting off due to fear?

Improvement starts with a simple question - build from these questions.

Follow curiosity loops
Become one with that which intrigues you.
Find a path suitable for implementation of this energy.
Your potential is waiting to be realized.

This is how you build specific knowledge - knowledge that cannot be taught, only learned through trial and error + curiosity.

Don’t know where to start?
Build towards a better life by listing out your interests.
Write out who inspires you.
Aim for 20 interests and 5 people who inspire you.

Start to narrow your focus.
Whatever you do - just start today.
Build out your project - your dream life.

The Danger Occurs Without A Sense Of Urgency

If you don’t plan your life or design it - society will.

This results in a dead-end job and a life of lack.
I don’t want anyone to experience this personal hell.
With the development of the internet we have a new form of leverage.

Code + Media as leverage.

Urgency comes down to daily experience.

When you don’t have the obsession to improve you lack any pressing problems.
To some - this is peace.
To others - this is mediocrity.

Create some urgency in your life - without it you are bound to wither away without achieving your dream.

Nobody wants to wake up at 40 - thinking about wasted youth and their regret.

I am not saying to disregard play.
The balance in life is between working hard and playing hard.
But- the third option is this:

Work can become play.

What if I told you - you can rewire yourself to enjoy learning, books, and writing?

Most people in my life I say this to look at me as if I killed the vibe.
It’s true though.
Finding the right things to enjoy are what make this real.

Leverage the internet to improve yourself.
Learn directly from people you admire.
Write about your experiences and develop your content library so you can leverage your ideas to improve the lives of those around you.
