Ideas I Learned From The Pursuit of Perfect Time Management

+ 3 Things I learned This Week

Dreams Start With Patience #35

Reading time: 4 minutes

Individual choices make or break you.

The loss of empathy comes with rational thought.

What will I lose if I commit to this?

Why do I avoid taking any risks?

If you find yourself in a negative mode of thinking

It’s time to pivot modes

Chances are you have neglected the emotional state of which you inhabit.

To think, to create, to fail, and even to become.

This is the path of empathy and positive modes of thinking.

Develop the awareness of your emotions that possess your subconscious mind

Increased awareness leads to more happiness

How? It’s simple.

Happiness is a fleeting state of mind. It’s wonderful, but it will disappear if you think about it too often.

The truth be told— the way you question “happiness” determines your choices.

If you ask yourself, “Will this choice make me happy?”

You have already lost the game before the game has started

But, there is hope.

For every decision you have on your hands, you can create happiness even after the matter.

The better question to ask is,

”Will this decision enlarge me or diminish me?”

Chances are you already know the answer - as this answer stems from your intuition of your emotions.

Intuition is a feeling.

Feelings are there because of survival mechanisms.

Stop playing into the idea of the masses by denying or falling victim to your emotions.

True happiness is acknowledging the present with all the limitations of self and life

Nuanced Advice Contrarian To The Self Help Industry

This week, I finished the book “Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management For Mortals” by Oliver Burkeman

The best books are those you want to read again and again.

I approached this book with an open mind.

It’s dubbed the anti-productivity book.

Chances are it might fill your shoes with some existential dread

It did the opposite for me.

Burkeman goes on to discuss the hard lives we all experience.

The design of our lives often isn’t the reason for our suffering but it’s majorly our perspective to blame.

Why do we avoid truth and reality as much as possible - reserving happiness for the future that never arrives?

Why do humans believe they’re entitled to time?

Improve yourself - Improve the world.

All self-help books do is provide you with tips.

Sure, every once in a while brilliant ideas are born.

The issue is an endless loop of consumption without action.

You can’t operate on tips alone.

You need execution and experience to grow.

The ideal is to refrain from telling people “tactics or strategies”

I prefer to base my writing on principles.

Because you need to fill in the blanks from the context provided by life.

My favorite idea from this book:

Time is not a possession like you possess the shoes on your feet or the money in your wallet.

You may have 4000 weeks in theory but the present is all you ever get.

You’d be lucky just to get a week.

By acknowledging that we live in the future for the sense of happiness we long desire.

You come to realize for happiness to occur the counterbalance is acceptance of suffering and awareness of mortal limitations - “Finitude”

The Ultimate Self-Improvement by Provision of More Time?

Recently I’ve been reading, “The Anthology of Balaji” by Eric Jorgenson

One of the bigger ideas in the first part of the book is to improve the quality of life for everyone the first step is to extend the human lifespan + healthspan.

Speed is a part of the value equation in economics because of mortal life.

To make everything cheaper and more accessible —> remove the necessity of speed by extension of life.

It’s interesting, there’s a lot of merit here but it’s an idea that makes many uncomfortable.

The drawbacks lie within the ideas of the afterlife

If god is real, like many seem to believe with faith and devotion then extending the lifespan of humans is a spit in the face to said creator.

It is a natural cycle - rebirth and death.

Creation and destruction.

The most pressing question- would you merge with technology to extend your life?

If you can answer this instantly you don’t realize how major a decision like this is

To control your health in a decentralized way is the core of longevity.

It’s prevalent to see how people have demonized the healthcare system.

Technology levels the playing field for everyone - which is important.

AI diagnosing humanity with higher levels of accuracy saves more people.

3 Things I Learned This Week:

1) The modern computer has provided us with so much.

The ability to share ideas has 10000x over the past 40 years.
Writing and speaking have accelerated the sharing of knowledge.
Improving the quality of life for many in the globe - all it takes is a keyboard.

2) Time management is not what we think it is

Time management should be rephrased to life management
Your life is your experience and perspectives through existence.
You are simply a vessel for observation.

3) To-do list anxiety?
To-do lists will never end, sure it feels great to position your tasks in front of you.
The data shows 3 major tasks a day is about the general limit.
If you’re overwhelmed and low energy (as it happens)
As you complete certain tasks throughout the day, add them to a “win” list.

This can be as minuscule as “brushed teeth” or “took out the trash”
Over time, you will begin to see it’s easier on your mind.
A “to-do” list and a “win” list are both essential.
The variation just depends on the season of life you are experiencing.
Gather your wins, take back control over the never-ending possibilities for productivity, and find enjoyment in the act of winning.
