Dreams Start With Patience #39
Reading time: 5 minutes
Patience:
The character or habit of mind that enables one to suffer afflictions, calamity, provocation, or other evil, with a calm unruffled temper; endurance without murmuring or fretfulness; calmness; composure.
Patience is about being intentional with your time.
Cultivation of patience is simply a decision.
You get to decide how a situation affects you.
You have nowhere to be - it’s time you be intensely present.
Believe in the now.
The present is fruitful
You have a duty to yourself.
To enjoy your life and to love the challenges in front of you.
There are always lessons to learn and moments to savor (perhaps too many)
We spend much of our time in this impatient state waiting for a future to arrive that never will
When the mindset changes your reality will change
But - until then.
If you want to better your life search for the signal in a world full of obnoxious noises.
This only happens when you exist in the present moment.
Train yourself - every time you begin future-proofing or remember something horrible or traumatic about your past.
GO FOR A WALK.
Meditation: The act of doing nothing.
Meditation is a challenge.
It’s a challenge of discipline and patience in one.
Can you do nothing - and do nothing frequently?
I began to enjoy a lot more in life when adding meditation to my routine.
Even when it felt uncomfortable
Babies and children have more neurons than the average adult.
Yet, they are not connected.
These connections happen with time and become shaped by our environment and nurture's efficiency or lack of nurture.
The human brain’s ability to shape itself is what led me to write this and you to read this.
Neuroplasticity through meditation
Neuroplasticity is defined as the ability of the nervous system to change its activity in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli by reorganizing its structure, functions, or connections.
Mindfulness meditation and the ability to “do nothing” have been shown in many studies to improve cognitive function and delay age-related degradation of the brain.
Meditation has real positive effects on the psyche and functionality of humans.
The effects?
Long-term memory storage
Improvements in attention
Working memory
Spatial abilities
The battle for awareness
A quote on awareness:
“You see persons and things not as they are but as you are.”
-Anthony de Mello
Awareness is a fight.
Who are you fighting?
Yourself
Sentient beings are always telling themselves stories about themselves and the world around them.
Stories of truth vs. Stories of illusion
Understand this:
The quest for truth is gradual and never-ending.
The quest for disillusionment will come to a stop, but only when you are challenged in life with great pain.
Your ability to learn from your mistakes comes from your awareness of your ignorance.
This is wisdom.
Asking better questions.
It has taken me a long time to stop being oriented around answers.
Since I was a kid, my dad was always preaching about asking better questions.
By asking better questions you become more patient and aware.
The questions in life are always there - in your subconscious mind.
Funny enough - chances are you already have the answers to these questions there as well.
3 Things I Learned This Week:
Forgiveness and urgency are critical to the good life.
A sense of urgency is required to take action on the endlessness of work and play.
Forgiveness allows for clarity - which you need to understand the world around you.The difference between “abundance” gratitude and “toxic” gratitude:
Toxic gratitude looks something like,
“My job is terrible I am miserable and I can’t keep doing this anymore.”
A voice of shame enters, “Be grateful you have this job, you could be on the streets making no money.”
This is not gratitude, unfortunately, I know many who operate from this realm of gratitude.
Gratitude of abundance is about truly being grateful:A warm meal cooked by a friend after a long day.
Gratitude towards a family member who helped you move.
Your wife or husband writes a thoughtful note about everything you do for them
Wisdom and the pursuit of knowledge has a purpose:
Freedom
Fearlessness
Tranquility or peace.
Become a life-long learner
The benefits of this discipline are that it is capable of 100x the progression of your life, your skills, and your community.
